My name is William Goodeve. I studied Cinema and Economics at USC/USF. I had several jobs and internships in entertainment. I have worked in some theaters and theme parks. I am a big “Star Wars” fan. I went to “Star Wars Celebration VI” and met Mark Hamill there.
Star Wars Starfighter was announced at “Star Wars: Celebration” in Japan. It is a film about Rebel Pilots starring Ryan Gosling.Also in this movie is Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. The film is expected to be released on May 28, 2027 and will be directed by Shawn Levy. Levy also produced the films “Arrival” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Amy Adams also appeared in “Arrival”. I’m excited to see this new film. I think it is neat that Ryan Gosling is going to be in a “Star Wars” film. He was also in “Project Hail Mary”. I read that book, it was awesome! Matt Smith also appears in “House of the Dragon”.

The Rebels fought the empire in the Original Trilogy Star Wars films. Rebel pilots first appeared in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”. They sometimes fly A Wings, B Wings, and Y Wings. The Empire flew TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptors. In the prequel trilogy there were different starships, such as the naboo starfighter, the jedi starfighter, and the vulture droid. There were similar spaceships in the OT and the Sequel trilogy.Also Poe Dameron had a neat X-Wing in “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens”. In this article I will explore other “Star Wars” content that also has to do with X-Wing Starships and Rebel pilots and some relevant content.
Books
Star Wars “X-Wing” Series
This was a series of 10 Star Wars legends books written by authors Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allston. They were written between 1996 and 2012. They have to do with Wedge Antilles and the Rebels in flight combat. I read these books and they were interesting. I think it was neat to learn more about The Star Wars Galaxy around the battle of Yavin. They discussed space battles and fights on other planets.
Video Games
“X-Wing Rogue Squadron”
A Nintendo 64 video game for console and PC that was released on December 7, 1998. The story is set between “Episode IV: A New Hope” and “Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”. It begins six months after the Battle of Yavin and shows missions during the formation of Rogue Squadron, led by Wedge Antilles and Luke Skywalker. This video game was fun. My brother and I had this when we were growing up. The graphics aren’t that good, but it is fun to fly around. The battles take place on 16 different planets, including Tatooine and Hoth.
“Star Wars: Squadrons”
This is an EA game about Star Wars Starfighter published in 2020. Both the Rebels and the Empire are playable in this game. There is a fun multiplayer and online mode. This game is playable on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. I enjoy this game, but people can be competitive online. The game is a space fight simulator, taking place in deep space locations, planets, and flight combat zones. The New Republic’s Squadron fights with the Empire’s squadron.
Rides
“Star Tours”
This is a “Star Wars” ride at Walt Disney World, that was made in 1987. You get to fly around the Star Wars galaxy with a droid named R-3X. It is a fun flight simulator.
They updated it to “Star Tours 2.0” which features flights on other planets, this was made in 2011. They have some other new rides for this film series at “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge”.
Movies
“Top Gun”
“The Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School is where the best of the best train to refine their elite flying skills. When hotshot fighter pilot Maverick is sent to the school, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanor put him at odds with the other pilots, especially the cool and collected Iceman.”(IMDb). This was a film about pilots in the Navy starring Tom Cruise. The soundtrack is good. Also there is a sequel called “Top Gun: Maverick. I mentioned this one because it features fighter pilots, which can be compared to Rebel pilots in Star Wars.
“Red Tails”
“A crew of African American pilots in the Tuskegee training program, having faced segregation while kept mostly on the ground during World War II, are called into duty under the guidance of Col. A.J. Bullard.” (IMDb) I mentioned this one because it was a film produced by George Lucas. It also has to do with flying.
I would also recommend watching the “Star Wars” saga films to prepare for this new movie in the franchise. My favorite space battle in the OT is when Luke, Red 5, and the other Rebel pilots destroy the Death Star. In the prequels I enjoyed when Obi Wan and Anikin were flying above Coruscant in Episode III. Additionally, in the Sequels, my favorite space battle was when the Resistance destroyed Starkiller base.
I am looking forward to seeing this new “Star Wars” film. he space battles for X-Wings are epic. I used to have a toy X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Collectibles for this franchise are fun too. LEGO makes a lot of the starships into sets. They have fun “Star Wars” games for that brand too.
