Following teaser released in May, musicians Annie Clark (better known as St. Vincent) and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney have shared a new trailer of their upcoming mockumentary film The Nowhere Inn. The trailer description states that the film is “a metafictional account of two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and on-stage persona. But they quickly discover unpredictable forces lurking within subject and filmmaker that threaten to detail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives”.
“Me and my bestie made a bananas art film…it was supposed to be a music doc but somewhere along the way, things went terribly wrong,” St. Vincent said when the first teaser trailer was released.
The project is directed by Bill Benz, and stars the two musicians along, who also serve as co-writers and producers. Besides, it will feature appearances from names like Dakota Johnson. The collaboration between St. Vincent and Brownstein was first announced via Collider in April 2019, after the pair had recorded series of mock interviews for Instagram, to promote St. Vincent’s 2017 album Masseduction.
The Nowhere Inn had its world premiere at Sundance in 2020, and will enjoy a wider release on September 17, 2021 both theatrically and on Apple TV+.
