Marvel Studios has created arguably the most successful franchise in cinematic history, and it certainly has the fiscal receipts to show for it! In the long history of film, there has never been quite the financial boom in the same way that Marvel’s beloved characters have dominated theaters across the country and world. Deadline briefs that there are only two other movies in the history of the American box office to pass the $800M marker, and with the induction of the third Spider-Man film, 2 out of 3 of those movies are in fact Marvel films.
The other two films being Star Wars: The Force Awakens which earned a whopping $936.6 M as a member of another historically massive movie franchise, and Avengers: Endgame which brought in $ 858.3 M in the final installment of that beloved series. And now, Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home starring Tom Holland and Zendaya has joined the two blockbusters in an exclusive achievement.
And to think the third Spider-Man film almost didn’t happen as Sony, who has long owned the rights to the beloved character, was duking it out with Disney over pursuits and percentages. But alls well that ends well as both studios should be plenty happy with the outcome of the compromise. Fans got that three Spider-Man crossover people have dreamed and theorized about for ages, and the business people behind the scenes made movie history.
