Spider-Man: No Way Home surges to $751 million globally in its first week in the box office making it the No. 6 movie of 2021 worldwide, the biggest opening weekend since Avengers: Endgame, and the No. 1 at the domestic box office after less than a week of release.
The movie surpassed Fast and Furious 9 on Tuesday, at the international box office, in less than a week of release. Peter Parker almost leaped through a new milestone, topping $400 million with Tuesday’s grosses for a running cumulative of $422.6 million in 68 offshore markets. No Way Home is currently the No.6 title of the year, No. 3 among Hollywood titles. At home, the film also reaches new milestones within both Hollywood and Marvel records.
No Way Home is now the third studio movie of the pandemic to cross $700 million and has done so just shy of a week- not even predicting its full play ahead. Thailand debuts the film tomorrow, with Japan following on January 7.
Tuesday’s international take was $38.6 million after the movie brought in $41.2 million on Monday. The U.K. leads the pack with play, having crossed the $50 million mark this week.
The top 10 international markets are now: the UK ($52.7M), Mexico ($41.4MM), Korea ($27.1M), France ($26.2M), Brazil ($24.4M), Australia ($24M), India ($21.8M), Russia ($20.3M), Italy ($14.9M) and Germany ($13.8M).
These numbers don’t reflect Korea’s box office for Wednesday but they estimate $28.4 million and No Way Home is predicted to dominate the market.
The film, directed by Jon Watts, rolled out overseas entries on Wednesday, the day before the U.S. release, and ended up setting multiple records in markets globally and ended the weekend at $340.8 million, domestically and a staggering $600.8 million in its worldwide debut. The latter numbers made it the third biggest global opener ever and the fourth internationally. The movie was the second biggest debut domestically where it edged out its Marvel predecessor Avengers: Infinity War.
