As Marvel’s most recent release, Captain America: Brave New World, has grossed over 200 million dollars over the past week since its Valentine’s Day release, recent plans regarding the fourth installment in the MCU Spiderman franchise have shifted. The newest untitled Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man has been pushed back to July 31, 2026, a week later than originally scheduled. This will be approximately five years since the previous release of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is on board to direct the upcoming movie and has experience collaborating with Marvel on Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings also released in 2021. Additionally, this pushback concerning the currently untitled Spider-Man 4 will give some space between Tom Holland’s other acting project with Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey starring Matt Damon scheduled to be released on July 17, 2026.
Jon Watts has directed the first three volumes in the new MCU Spider-Man franchise with Spider-Man: No Way Home surpassing 1.9 billion dollars the box office.
Sony currently holds the rights to the Spider-Man character as they had previously made a deal with Disney to include him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuting in Captain America: Civil War in 2016.
Just last year, it was reported that Tom Holland will star alongside Austin Butler in the upcoming crime picture American Speed set to be released by Amazon MGM Studios in January of 2026.
