Sophie Wilde In Talks To Star In ‘Watch Dogs’ Film Adaptation

Well-renowned Ubisoft Games tech thriller Watchdogs will be taking over the big screen. According to Deadline, it was announced that Sophie Wilde, who starred in the horror film Talk to Me, is in talks to star in this big tech vs man-based thriller.

The director and writer for the film have also been announced, as French director Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark) will be calling the shots and will base the film on Christie LeBlanc’s original screenplay.

For some video game adaptations, some studios follow what happens in the first game’s story, one recent example being The Last of Us, which mostly followed its source material to the T.

But currently, the film’s plot is still under wraps, and it hasn’t confirmed if this will be a true adaptation or a story just set in the Watch Dogs universe.

In the Watch Dogs universe, most stories typically involve hacker and vigilante-type characters facing off against corrupted tech companies and millionaires, crime organizations, and even rival hacker gangs to shed light on their cities’ corruption.

If the new film were to focus on the original Watch Dogs game, it would follow the story of Aiden Pierce, a vigilante trying to get revenge on the people responsible for his niece’s death following a hacker job gone wrong, according to Ubisoft

Set in Chicago, Pierce would use the city’s cTOS system, central Operating System, to hack people’s devices and infrastructure to gather the pieces he needs to deliver his version of justice all while making alliances with other hackers and groups in the city.

It is less likely that Wilde will be playing the main character in the film if LeBlanc’s screenplay is based on this plot from the game. Instead, she could be supporting character Clara Lille, who is part of the hacker group DedSec and becomes Pierce’s informant throughout the games.

But if Ubisoft plans to make this story its own thing as they did with their 2017 film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, this could be new content that gets Watch Dogs fans excited again, as its most recent game, Watch Dogs: Legion, received mixed reviews from fans, according to Steam

The Watch Dogs film’s production and release dates have yet to be confirmed.
