Both Betty Gilpin and Jacki Weaver are officially joining the cast of Sony’s upcoming film, The Grudge, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The two actresses join the likes of previously announced cast members John Cho (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Star Trek), Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight), and Andrea Riseborough (Birdman) among others.
The Eyes of My Mother director Nicolas Pesce is set to direct the new adaption of the classic Japanese horror story, and he will be working with 2016’s Don’t Breathe‘s working duo, Ghost House and Good Universe. No details about the new plot have been announced, but we can assume that it will follow the main story of the previous Grudge films, which feature a curse where a vengeful or sorrowful spirit kills a person who enters their domain, which then spawns the murdered’s ghost to haunt and kill another in an endless cycle.
Gilpin is most recognizable from her starring role on Netflix hit GLOW. She can also be seen on the Showtime’s hit show Nurse Jackie.
Weaver has most recently worked with Melissa McCarthy as her mother in the comedy Life of the Party. She also currently stars on Secret City, an Australian television series.
