Looking to capitalize on awards season, Sony Pictures Classics has announced a November 27 release date for the upcoming Hank Williams Sr. biopic I Saw the Light. Tom Hiddelston (The Avengers) stars as the iconic country crooner.Based on Colin Escott’s biography of the legendary singer/songwriter, the film is a chronicle of the Williams’ rise to fame and fall from grace as he dealt with drug and alcohol addiction – partly stemming from his life-long battle with the spinal condition Spina Bifida. Williams died of heart failure in 1953 at the young age of 29.
Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers: Age of Ultron) plays Williams’ first wife, Audrey Mae. Bradley Whitford (TV’s The West Wing), Cherry Jones and David Krumholtz round out the cast.
Hiddleston, best know as Loki in The Avengers and Thor films will perform classic Williams hits like “Hey Good Lookin’,” and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”.
Marc Abraham (Flash of Genius) directs from his own adaptation of Escott’s book.
