Sony Pictures is encountering some scheduling trouble with their Uncharted adaptation. The upcoming Ruben Fleischer film, which currently has Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in top billing roles, has been delayed to next year according to Deadline.
The film was currently on track to be released before Holland’s third Spider-Man installment, but Sony opted to push back the release date. Sony confirmed Friday evening that it removed Uncharted from its initial December 18, 2020 release date to March 5, 2021. The push back was one of many moves handled by Sony, which includes Noah Centineo’s Masters of the Universe that was originally intended for a December 2019 release date.
Uncharted experienced a plethora of ups and downs, especially with Travis Knight leaving the director’s seat due scheduling conflicts. However the screenplay, written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, still remains. This action-adventure film starring treasure hunter Nathan Drake, based one of the most revered PlayStation video game franchises of all time, has been Sony’s passion project for the past five years.
Sony also made scheduling decisions on two other films in their lineup: the TriStar romantic comedy Happiest Season starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis and a Kevin Hart vehicle titled Fatherhood. Holland and Fleischer have yet to issue a statement regarding the delay of Uncharted.
