Sony Is Making A ‘Bewitched’ Movie

Sony Pictures just announced that they are planning on making a new movie based on the classic 1960’s series Bewitched. According to Screen Rant this new movie will closely resemble the original 1960’s sitcom. Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who were the show runners on 12 Monkeys, will be working on this Bewitched project.

The original Bewitched tv series was about a witch named Samantha who marries a human man named Darrin, but Darrin demands that Sammantha refrain from using magic and act normal. Unfortunately for Darrin Samantha’s magic frequently causes chaos. Not only that Sammantha’s magical family disapproves of her marriage and her family members often appear to torment the couple with wacky magical hijinks.

The sitcom received a movie adaptation in 2005, which was directed by the late Nora Ephron and starred Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. That movie was not actually a direct adaption of the original show. Instead the movie took a rather meta approach to the plot, and the story was about a studio creating a remake of the original show. However the 2005 movie was both a critical and financial failure.

Bewitched received some attention recently when the Marvel’s series WandaVision payed homage to the classic sitcom.
