Sony Hack Reveals Plans to Include Spider-Man in Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Among the countless tidbits of information leaked by the hacks into Sony’s computer network in the past weeks are the emails between Sony Presidents Doug Belgrad and Amy Pascal detailing a potential deal with Marvel Studios to include Spider-Man in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

First reported by The Wall Street Journal, this crossover would put Spider-Man back into the hands of Marvel, leading to a true-telling of the Civil War storyline, as well as invigorating the dwindling Spider-Man franchise under actor Andrew Garfield.

As far as the original comics go, one of the first sparks for the Marvel Civil War comes when Peter Parker unmasks himself in support of Iron Man’s Superhero Registration Act. This alliance is later broken in a pivotal moment when Spider-Man switches to the side of Captain America and anti-registration, ultimately creating a chasm in the Superhero allegiances.

Fans have speculated that Chadwick Boseman’s (42) Black Panther, or perhaps an un-cast Daredevil, would fill in for Spidey in representing the torn ethical debate; however, nabbing Spider-Man would be serious win for Marvel and the film as a whole. Involving the webbed crusader in such a momentous storyline, in addition to Marvel’s exciting Phase 3 lineup, would most likely be a game changer for the future of the Spider-Man franchise and trilogy.

Since the email exchanges however, these talks have reportedly broken down. It wouldn’t being going too far to say that once the smoke clears from Sony, the negotiations may possibly be picked up once again. Hopefully the resounding support from fans will push the Sony-Marvel deal into getting done.
