Sonic The Hedgehog has been one of the most recognizable video game characters since 1991, when Sega Genesis first introduced him. With Sonic being considered one of the most popular video games, adaptations were quickly created including Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog (1993), and numerous others throughout the 90s and early 2000s. In August of 2020, the first official Sonic The Hedgehog film reached screens. The film was directed by Jeff Fowler and had star-studded cast including Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz as Sonic.
It has now been announced that the sequel will reportedly return to the big screen and as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was announced, rumors began to spread that the film will include Knuckles the Echidna, one of the most popular secondary characters in the video game franchise. Knuckles was first introduced in the 1994 game Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and quickly became a fan favorite.
In the first film, another secondary character, Tails had a quick cameo, so many assume that Knuckles will only have a cameo as well. According to ComicBook.com, he actually has a larger role in the sequel than that, and will be able to glide and climb walls. The film is set to begin production in May of 2021, and is currently set to release on April 8, 2022.
