Vin Diesel may have made official news that has been widely speculated for a while now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a Facebook Live video the actor posted on Friday, he seemingly confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy group will indeed be a part of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. While this may not exactly come as surprising – Marvel has always been keen on getting the most out of their collection of characters (see: Captain America: Civil War or Avengers 2.1) – yet it’s something that MCU gatekeepers – including Kevin Feige, Guardians director James Gunn and Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo – have thus far been fairly cagey about revealing.
Diesel voices fan favorite Groot in the Guardians films whose core ensemble cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Bradley Cooper (his voice at any rate) and while it’s still kept under lock and key just how they may be a part of Avengers: Infinity War, it certainly makes a fair amount of sense. Josh Brolin, who portrays Infinity War‘s Big Bad – Thanos – has been featured most significantly up until this point in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. Part of Diesel’s admission stated:
….the Guardians will be included in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and that’s incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were a part of our page you knew before everybody.
From the Groot’s mouth, that appears to be that. Avengers: Infinity War will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018. The wait is shorter, however, for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, which arrives on screens on May 5, 2017.
