‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Looks To Make Slow Start At $110 Million Opening Weekend

Update: 5/27 at 3:30 PM

New projections have arrived for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and those projections are not looking hot. The film is projected to make even less than the previous assumptions, with an estimated $84.7 million for the 3 day and $103 million for the 4-day box office, according to Deadline. The film continues to be dismissed by critics and audiences alike, and the box office numbers are clearly showing that disappointment.

Solo: A Star Wars Story had already left a lot of Star Wars fans a little puzzled and skeptical, mostly because of the director debacle and the rather interesting trailers, and the opening box office numbers are definitely reflecting the sentiments. The film looks to make somewhere between $105-115 million this 4 day opening box office weekend, showing a significantly lower amount than every other new Star Wars film, according to Deadline. The current projection is even lower than the opening weekend for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the last film in the prequel trilogy that released to moderate reviews.

The film brought in a decent $33 million today, but it is still on the “weaker” side in comparison to other opening days for Star Wars films and Disney films in general. The reviews have been giving the film a fairly average score, currently sitting at a 71% RottenTomatoes score. Many reviewers have been tagging the film as a “popcorn” flick, not necessarily a good moniker for such a storied film franchise.

Deadpool 2 is currently the film that is pulling audiences away from Solo, looking to bring in $52-57 million for the 4-day weekend, a strong showing for its second weekend. Avengers: Infinity War is still bringing in surprising numbers, looking to bring around $19-21 million for the 4-day weekend.
