With Kyle Gallner joining Brie Larson, the film is beginning to come together, with JT Mollner set to direct and J.J. Abrams attached as a producer. Skeletons will be released by Sony Pictures after they acquired the international film rights at the European Film Market.
According to Deadline, Skeletons will be, “…a modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.” The source material is a short story by Phillip Fracassi, with Brian Duffield penning the film script, followed by revisions by director Mollner.
Infrared, FilmNation Entertainment’s production label, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media are all involved in bringing this film to life. Producing the film will be J.J. Abrams and Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller, with Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Brian Duffield, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Brie Larson and Phillip Fracassi serving as executive producers.
Skeletons will not be the first time Gallner is working under Mollner, as Gallner starred in 2023’s Strange Darling. Gallner is also set to star in upcoming 2026 film Carolina Caroline alongside Samara Weaving. Skeletons does not currently have a release date, so stay tuned to MXDWN for any updates.
