It seems every Marvel franchise is part of something bigger these days, even at Sony where they only control the film rights to Spider-Man. No other heroes to pull in? Not to worry. Spider-Man has a rogues gallery only rivaled in all of comic-bookdom by the likes of Batman.
With the presence of multiple villains in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and open talk about setting up two future installments to the franchise, speculation has been flying for a little while now as to whether or not the Sinister 6 might show up. For the uninitiated, the Sinister 6 were a sort of villain-Avengers group initially formed by Doc Ock for the express purpose of talking down Spider-Man. In the comics, the original Sinister 6 was comprised of Ock, Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, and Sandman. Other villains have, through the years, come and gone in forming similarly named groups.
But consider just what is known about Amazing Spider-Man 2 for a moment. Electro and Rhino will make appearances. Both Norman and Harry Osborne are waiting in the wings – that’s a potential Green Goblin or Hobgoblin showing up in Amazing 3 or 4. That’s halfway there already. Going purely from a visual style, Kraven, Mysterio, and Vulture would seem to fit in the universe being established in the Amazing films, plus their among the most popular of Spider-Man’s foes to have not yet seen screen time. And then, of course there’s this photo just released:
Now, this could just be Sony having some fun with the naming of their sound stages. On the other hand, that seems like a lot of trouble to go to for an idle joke. If we were betting folks, we’d say that it’ll be at least another film before we see any sort of Sinister 6 assembled together, but don’t be at all shocked if a couple more villains are introduced in Amazing 3 and they all come together for Amazing 4.
