With an unexpected win for the Freddie Mercury Biopic at the Golden Globes, it make sense that 20th Century Fox would re-release the film to gain more Oscar buzz. Starting Friday January 11, Bohemian Rhapsody will be re-released into theaters again but with an added bonus. Instead of a simple re-release, Fox is releasing a Sing-Along Version of the film in theaters.
750 theaters will received the new Sing-Along version of the film in the U.S. compared to it’s current 1,080 locations the film has been playing at. It’ll serve as a good interacting experience for fans of Queen to sing along with the band’s iconic songs including We Will Rock You, Another One Bites the Dust and many others. Chris Anderson, President of Fox, talked about the excitement of the new release by stating, ““We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to see this outstanding Golden Globe-winning film featuring Rami Malek’s amazing Golden Globe-winning performance in theaters all over the U.S. and Canada in both its original form and in a never-before-experienced ‘sing-along’ version,”.
Numerous other films have done sing-along releases shortly after their initial release in the film, mainly Disney with films like Moana and Frozen gaining plenty of notoriety for their sing-along versions. Fox has also recently done a sing-along release just last year with The Greatest Showman being re-released in theaters for audiences to sing along with. Given the added Oscar Buzz and this sing along version being very appealing for fans of Queen, it’ll be very likely that Bohemian Rhapsody’s box office will definitely increase with this adding to the film’s popularity.
