Two actresses are currently reported to be circling the roles of Yoko Ono and George Harrison’s first wife, Pattie Boyd, in Sam Mendes’s ambitious The Beatles: Four Movie Event. The films will be a set of four Beatles biopics, each one from a different band member’s perspective. As first reported by Variety, and later reported by ScreenRant, Anna Sawai, known for her Emmy-winning role in Shōgun, is said to be portraying Yoko Ono. Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in shows like Sex Education and The White Lotus, is said to be close to being cast as Pattie Boyd.
If this casting gets finalized, Anna Sawai and Aimee Lou Wood will be part of an already star-studded cast. Starting with the cast playing the Beatles themselves, there’s Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, all of whom were announced at CinemaCon earlier this year. Recently announced were the casting of Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Ringo Starr’s first wife, Maureen Starkey.
All four Beatles films will be directed by Sam Mendes and will be released theatrically by Sony Pictures throughout April 2028. The release strategy for all four films is currently unknown, except that Sony Pictures has described the release as the “first binge-able theatrical experience.”
