Sharon Osborne, wife of legendary metal singer Ozzy Osborne, gave some insight this week into what Ozzy’s biopic might entail. Per Rolling Stone, Sharon promised that the movie will be “a lot more real” than other recent rock-star biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) and Rocketman (2019), with her calling the former a “Hallmark rock movie.” She also notes how they will depict Ozzy’s real-life struggles, making it a story “about a survivor” that they “don’t want… to be squeaky, shiny clean and all of that. We’re not making it for kids. It’s an adult movie for adults.”
While no director or cast members have been named, Ozzy’s son Jack confirmed in the article that the film is currently in the works with a writer on board and that the story will span from 1979 to 1996. Ozzy himself gave insight into the plot of the film, saying how “From what I understand, it’s about Sharon and I and our relationship… It’s how we met, fell in love, and how we married.” Sharon and Ozzy Osborne first met in the 1970’s, when Sharon’s father was the manager for Ozzy’s Black Sabbath before he was kicked out. Sharon then became his manager herself, and eventual his wife.
As mentioned above, there has been a recent trend in successful, family-oriented rock biopics that have been great box-office successes. This aesthetic is a little bit more challenging for Osborne, who was notorious for his drug use and antics such as biting a live bat’s head off on-stage. Keeping the story as real and true-to-life as possible seems like the best way to tell the hectic story of the life of Ozzy Osborne.
