Kevin Hart and Will Smith will be teaming up in Paramount Pictures’ remake of the 1987 road trip comedy Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Both actors will not only star in but will also produce the remake through their respective banners, HartBeat Productions (Hart) and Westbrook Studios (Smith). Deadline first reported the news.
Aeysha Carr (Brooklyn 99, Woke) will write the script for the modernized remake, making her feature writing debut. Producing alongside Hart and Smith are HartBeat’s President of Film and Television Bryan Smiley and Westbrook Studios Co-President and Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone.
The original John Hughes-directed Planes, Trains & Automobiles starred Steve Martin and the late John Candy, a mismatched duo of businessmen who reluctantly find themselves as traveling partners in a desperate attempt to get home to Chicago for Thanksgiving amid various holiday travel disasters. The two men mix like water and oil, but it makes for a comedic holiday road trip for viewers.
Smith most recently appeared in Bad Boys for Life and is currently in production for the Warner Bros. sports drama, King Richard, starring as tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams’ father.
Hart was last seen in the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level. He will be seen next in Fatherhood, set for a release in April 2021.
