Shane Black’s ‘The Nice Guys’ Gets a Distributor

Warner Bros. has agreed to distribute The Nice Guys, the latest film from director Shane Black. The Nice Guys will star Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in a noir detective drama. Black wrote the screenplay with Anthony Bagarozzi initially intending for the project to launch a TV series. The story has since been reformatted for the big screen. Joel Silver from Warner Bros. will produce.

The Nice Guys will follow a private eye and a local tough guy searching for a missing porn star in 1970’s Los Angeles. As one might expect from a detective story, the investigation will eventually lead to a network of corruption and secret alliances. Producer Joel Silver promises that the film will have much of the humor and witty dialogue of Black’s other detective film, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Most of Shane Black’s film credits thus far come from screenplays for action films including Lethal Weapon 1 & 2 and The Last Boy Scout. He made his directorial debut in 2005 with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which helped restart Robert Downey Jr’s acting career. Black worked with RDJ again in last year’s Iron Man 3. Black is currently working on the reboot of the Predator franchise. Joel Silver has worked with Black before on the Lethal Weapon series and on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. No release date for The Nice Guys has been announced but it seems that this project is moving forward so expect to hear more soon.
