Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron Play Unlikely Couple in ‘Long Shot’ Trailer

In a summer filled with so many blockbusters, there always tends to be a few smaller movies released as counter-programming for those uninterested in the big movies. Director Jonathan Levine of 50/50 has a new romantic comedy starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. The movie will be released at the beginning of May and is known as Long Shot. The film is about the U.S. Secretary of State (Theron) getting the idea to run for U.S. President. She persuades her old friend, played by Seth Rogen, to assist her with writing which ends up leading to an unlikely relationship between the two.

The first trailer for the romantic comedy just premiered on February 15th and showcased a good many humorous moments along with chemistry between the two leads. Seemingly, the rom-com will be a relatively easy watch. In spite of the film’s political nature, the goal of the movie, from what this trailer showcases, is more or less simple entertainment. Seth Rogen himself stated, “We wanted to make a movie that acknowledged the political realities we all live in without trying to make too heavy-handed directives”, regarding the film’s tonal direction. The film is meant to appeal to a wide audience. Therefore, its trailer and marketing are showcasing what seems to be a simple fun time.

The film is set to release on May 3, 2019, and will premier at SXSW Film Festival in March.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
