Sequel to ‘Searching’ Announced With Unique Story

A sequel to the 2018 thriller mystery movie Searching has been announced.  Like the horror movie Unfriended, the entire movie of Searching is done in the style of a modern found footage film from, and the entire movie is shown through smartphones or laptops.

The plot of the original Searching movie was about a single father, played by John Cho, who uses his family computer in order to find his missing teenage daughter, who was played by Michelle La.

However Screen Rant reports that Searching will be going in a different direction from the first movie, and that this sequel will be telling a completely different story than the original movie. At this time there are no other concrete details about what the plot of Searching 2 could be. Presumably the sequel will use the same format as the original movie. Also it was reported that director Aneesh Chaganty will not be returning to direct Searching 2. Instead Will Merrick and Nick Johnson, who served as the editorial team for Searching, will be directing this movie. This movie will be the directorial debut for Merrick and Johnson.

Production on Searching 2 is supposed to begin sometime this spring, but it is unknown if the pandemic restrictions placed on Hollywood will affect the movie’s production.
