The trailer for Sofia Coppola’s newest project, On the Rocks, officially released on Wednesday, via Deadline. The film stars Bill Murray as Felix, the older, debonaire father of Rashida Jones’ Laura, who go around following her husband, Dean, played by Marlon Wayans, who they suspect is cheating on her. It will also star Game of Thrones’ Jessica Henwick.
On the Rocks will be produced in a partnership with A24 and Apple Original Films. It will be preliminarily released in available theaters in October, and then exclusively on Apple TV+. This marks one of Apple’s most prominent collaborations with a highly-regarded production company, and we could see more of these types of deals in the future, especially with the uncertainty regarding the opening of many movie theaters across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The star-studded family dramedy is Coppola’s first work since 2017’s The Beguiled. It is Murray’s first official lead since Jim Jarmusch’s 2019 The Dead Don’t Die, and Jones’ since 2019’s The Sound of Silence.
Murray and Coppola previously collaborated as director and actor in 2003’s Lost in Translation.
