The new trailer for A24’s film The Disaster Artist has just arrived. Sourced from Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s nonfiction account on the experience of working on Tommy Wiseau’s notorious movie, The Room, the film features James Franco as Wiseau. Amusingly enough, just like Wiseau did in The Room, Franco will be starring and directing in the film.
The film also stars Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Ari Graynor (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), Zac Efron (Charlie St. Cloud), and Seth Rogen (Knocked Up). It will also feature quite a few performances from actors playing themselves, such as Bryan Cranston, J.J. Abrams, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Zach Braff, and Kristen Bell.
So far, it looks the comedic film will get plenty of “hi Marks” in its wry depiction of one of the most infamous movies of all time. The trailer pokes fun at the unintentionally ridiculous performance and direction of Wiseau, who believed that he was making a work of art that would live on forever. To be fair, Wiseau was not incorrect, as the film achieved immortality in pop culture for its absurdity.
