Dax Shepard (TV’s Parenthood) and Michael Peña (Ant Man) are hitting the road as California Highway Patrol officers in the first trailer for CHIPS. Based off the famous 70s television series, the cinematic remake was written and directed by Shepard in a fresh comedic take.
In the vein of action buddy cop comedies like Bad Boys or 21 Jump Street, CHIPS will follow the antics of two CHP officers as the patrol the Los Angeles highways. Shepard and Peña are playing new versions of Jon Baker and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, the original roles first made famous by Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada. Poncherello is an undercover FBI agent looking to expose dirty cops in the CHP, while Baker is a retired X-Games biker who joined the CHP to save his marraige.
Also making an appearance in the film is Shepard’s wife and comedic actress Kristen Bell (Bad Moms), as well as Vincent D’Onofrio (The Magnificent Seven), Ryan Hansen (Central Intelligence), Adam Brody (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), and more.
CHIPS hits theaters March 24. Check out the trailer below.
