The new trailer for Una has just been released. Rooney Mara (Carol) stars in the film, acting alongside Riz Ahmed (Jason Bourne) and Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises). David Harrower wrote the original play, Blackbird, upon which the film is based.
Mara will have another film coming to the big screen next year: Mary Magdalene, where she will be playing the titular Biblical figure.
Ahmed has cultivated a diverse career, working in film, television, and the music industry, where he is known more popularly as Riz MC. Recently, he was also connected to the upcoming Venom movie, though his role is not entirely confirmed.
Additionally, Ahmed and Mendelsohn have worked together another time in the Star Wars anthology film Rogue One. There, Ahmed played the pilot Bodhi Rook, whose mission ultimately enabled the Rebel Alliance to steal the plans for the Death Star. Mendelsohn, meanwhile, played the villain Orson Krennic, who was instrumental in creating the super weapon which ultimately destroyed Alderaan.
Mendelsohn continues that tradition of portraying harmful characters in the narrative. He plays an extremely unsettling role in the film as a man who was convicted for his fixation with and sexual abuse of Mara’s character when she was only thirteen. While he has assumed a new identity complete with a wife and different name, Mara’s character tracks him down, seemingly to confront him for his actions and to reconcile with her own painful experiences.
The trailer can be watched below.
Una will get a wide release later this year.
