The trailer for Germany’s Oscar entry, In The Fade, has just been unveiled. The film captures an extremely topical issue, namely the rise of Neo-Nazism and how it is negatively impacting the modern world. The movie follows woman named Katja, played by Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), who loses her family in an act of terrorism. She must then go through the legal system to determine who killed the people she loved and ensure that the murderers receive sentencing for their crimes. During her emotional upheaval, Katja soon figures out that the suspects are revealed as Neo-Nazis, which lends a complicated nuance to her mission for retribution, as she lives in the country that fostered the rise of the original Nazi party.
Fatih Akin (The Edge of Heaven) wrote and directed the film for Magnolia Pictures. Akin had plenty of great actors at his side at the film, such as Denis Moschitto (Closed Circuit), Johannes Krisch (A Cure for Wellness), Samia Muriel Chancrin (Lose Your Head), and Numan Acar (The Promise). So far, In The Fade has been garnering great reviews, even leading Kruger to win the award for best actress at the Cannes Film Festival for the movie.
