Director of Kong: Skull Island, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, recently revealed that screenplay adaptation for fan-favorite Konami video game Metal Gear Solid has finally been finished, according to Screen Rant. Sony Pictures has been patiently waiting to bring this franchise to the silver screen since the game released on PlayStation in 1998.
Vogt-Roberts is passionate about the project and wants to produce a genuinely great video game adaption. In an interview with IGN, he discloses that growing up with video games makes him more apt to produce a great film based on a video game since he knows how it feels to play them.
Even after many attempts, Hollywood has struggled to consistently deliver video-game-to-movie success stories. Although some horror adaptations like Silent Hill and Resident Evil fared well, they have failed to capitalize on the inherent potential in creating a quality film franchise from an established video game series with millions of fans. Vogt-Roberts offered that movies such as Snowpiercer and Edge of Tomorrow, while not based on actual video games, maintain the right foundation that he hopes to achieve with his adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.
With a completed script that has been 20 years in the making, the project is one step closer to become a reality. No news yet on a production start-date or a release date, but you can check out the full IGN interview with Vogt-Roberts on YouTube while patiently waiting for solid details to surface.
