Screenwriter Robert Klane Dies At 81 Years Old

Robert Klane, whose screenwriting credits include Weekend At Bernie’s and Where’s Poppa, has died at the age of 81. He passed in his Woodland Hills, California home, due to kidney failure. 

His son, Jon, released a statement to Variety, that reads 

Klane’s satirical and daring writing pushed the boundaries of good taste while depicting the unfairness of life through themes of sex, family, madness, and death

Klane had a massive array of writing credits to his name. From the aforementioned Weekend At Bernie’s, along with its sequel, and Where’s Poppa, his other credits for the big screen include Every Little Crook And Nanny, Unfaithfully Yours, Folks! and National Lampoon’s European Vacation.  

Some of his novels include The Horse Is Dead, his first book from 1967, Fire Sale from 1975, and the original book that the screenplay was adapted from, Where’s Poppa. He even boasts TV writing credits, which include works on M*A*S*H, and Emmy-winner Tracy Takes On…. 

Klane is survived by his wife J.C. Scott, brother Larry, sons David and Jon, daughter Caitlin, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy, who passed in 2011.
