As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland: Double Tap) had a few comments about a recently-released AI generated video featuring Brad Pitt (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible, Top Gun). The video was published by Ruairi Robinson (The Last Days on Mars, Fifty Percent Grey), an Oscar-nominated filmmaker. He revealed he typed two sentences into Seedance 2.0. THR states that the synthetic media is owned by ByteDance, a controlling entity of TikTok.
The video starts off with Cruise and Pitt on opposite ends of a balcony in a downtown building. They proceed to fist-fight, duck and induce their action while Cruise completes the fight with a roundhouse kick. The video provided by The Hollywood Reporter can be seen below:

On X, Reese stated, “I hate to say it. It’s likely over for us.”
After receiving several comments, Reese decided to be clear on his stance about artificial intelligence via X,
“To clarify: I am not at all excited about Al encroaching into creative endeavors. To the contrary, I’m terrified. So many people I love are facing the loss of careers they love. I myself am at risk. When I wrote ‘It’s over, I didn’t mean it to sound cavalier or flippant. I was blown away by the Pitt v Cruise video because it is so professional. That’s exactly why I’m scared. My glass-half-empty view is that Hollywood is about to be revolutionized/ decimated. If you truly think the Pitt v Cruise video is unimpressive slop, you’ve got nothing to worry about. But I’m shook.”
The Hollywood Reporter has also stated that the SAG-AFTRA, also known as the actor’s union, made a statement about the video and about Seedance 2.0 on Facebook. “SAG-AFTRA stands with studios in condemning the blatant infringement enabled by Bytedance’s new AI video model Seedance 2.0.”
The SAG-AFTRA continues on by stating their direct reasoning against the generator in their Facebook post, “Seedance 2.0 disregards law, ethics, industry standards and basic principles of consent.”
The Motion Pictures Association’s CEO Charles Rivkin additionally made a statement via The Hollywood Reporter, “In a single day, the Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorized use of U.S. copyrighted works on a massive scale,” said Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association. “By launching a service that operates without meaningful safeguards against infringement, ByteDance is disregarding well-established copyright law that protects the rights of creators and underpins millions of American jobs. ByteDance should immediately cease its infringing activity.”
