With Paramount set on a July 1, 2015 release date for the new Terminator reboot, news outlets are chomping at the bit for any news on the project. The latest is that it seems every major character from James Cameron’s original Terminator film will be making appearance, with Skydance and Annapurna (the companies producing the project) on the verge of finding their Sarah Connor, who was played by Linda Hamilton in the 1984 version.
Since our earlier coverage on the project, it has been confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be reprising his role as the eponymous killing machine that made him a star in 1984. Depending on how close the plot to the reboot will be to The Terminator, Arnold will be playing a robotic assassin from a post-apocalyptic future where machines are threatening to exterminate mankind. Knowing this, John Connor, the leader of the human resistance, sends a special soldier to protect the machine’s target – his mother, Sarah Connor. The reboot’s director, Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) has his eyes set on Emilia Clarke, Brie Larson, and Margot Robbie to fill Linda Hamilton’s shoes.
Emilia Clarke is probably best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones, but is also set to appear in Dom Hemingway with Jude Law, which releases in the U.S. early next year. Brie Larson starred in this year’s SXSW winner Short Term 12 and has been seen in a number of supporting roles from this year’s The Spectacular Now to 21 Jump Street. Margot Robbie is a much fresher face having just appeared in the recently released About Time to Scorcese’s upcoming The Wolf of Wall Street.
Alan Taylor is eyeing Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) to play Sarah’s son, John (albeit his future version) and Garrett Hedlund for the role of Kyle Reese, John’s father who goes back to protect Sarah, although those names are merely wish lists as THR has reported that no official meetings have taken place.
