Jackie Chan (Rush Hour, Shanghai Knights) will star in the action comedy Skiptrace along with Fan Bingbing (Iron Man 3, X-Men: Days of Future Past), as China and the U.S. co-produce with Exclusive Media and China Talent International in a chase for the Chinese and International crossover markets.
Within the next five years China is expected to overtake the U.S. box office, becoming a global film superpower. How do the studios take advantage of this lucrative market? The answer is co-production, and who better to lead the charge than veteran crossover star Jackie Chan?
With his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jackie Chan – actor, comedian, writer, producer and martial arts expert – has ample popularity to open the doors for an English language Chinese film. Skiptrace is about a good cop whose niece (played by Fan Bingbing) gets involved with a crime syndicate family. The crime boss is an old nemesis of Chan’s character, one he has been trying to take down for over twenty years. The only person who can help save his niece is an American gambler, to be played by Seann William Scott (Just Before I Go), who has to be tracked down and brought to Hong Kong.
Sam Fell, director of animated features Paranorman and The Tale of Despereaux, will make his live-action debut with Skytrace. Jay Longino is penning the script along with Brian Greenwood and Alessandro Tanaka (The Sitter) and David Posamentier and Geoff Moore (Better Living Through Chemistry).
Jackie Chan is currently starring in CZ12, an action comedy about the Chinese Zodiac. Production on Skytrace begins in January 2014.
