Amidst a multitude of headlines concerning the changing future of Scream VII, it has recently been revealed that Courtney Cox could come for the next installment. Cox has been present for all the films since the 1996 classic.
Scream was helmed by horror icon Wes Craven, responsible for other staples of the genre such as The Hills Have Eyes, The People Under The Stairs and Nightmare On Elm Street. Craven would direct the first four Scream films before his death in 2015.
Alongside Craven was writer Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first Scream and its sequel, as well as Scream IV. Hollywood Reporter states that with the upcoming seventh entry, Williamson will take up the role of director.
Cox’s potential return to the series comes following the loss of the 2 main leads as well as the director, Christopher Landon, for the seventh installment. Lead actress Melissa Barrera was fired from the project, with other lead Jenna Ortega and director Landon leaving not long after.
Cox’s role in Scream is her most well known role, alongside playing Monica Geller in the late 90s sitcom, Friends. Cox starred alongside Neve Campbell and David Arquette throughout the first five films, and was the only of the original cast to return to 2022’s Scream VI.
