Scott Eastwood (Fury) is the latest actor to join director Oliver Stone’s still untitled Edward Snowden movie, according to Deadline. The movie is an adaptation of the books The Snowden Files and Time of the Octopus. It follows the true story of former-CIA employee Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who leaked thousand of classified documents to the press.
There’s been no word on Eastwood’s role in the movie. As the son of Clint Eastwood, Scott got his break with roles in his father’s movies, including Flags of Our Fathers (2006) and Gran Torino (2008). He’s building quite the future for himself with the upcoming Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Longest Ride, and the western, Diablo. Gordon-Levitt (The Walk) was reported to have been Stone’s favorite for the movie last year. Shailene Woodley (Insurgent) was brought on to the project shortly afterwards.
Citizenfour, a documentary about Snowden, is currently receiving attention thanks to its Oscar nomination for Best Documentary. Due to the controversy surrounding Snowden, it’s likely Stone’s movie will draw attention upon release.
