Scarlett Johansson Says Goodbye To More Marvel Films, Gwyneth Paltrow Says Perhaps

On The Goop Podcast, actresses Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow spoke about memories of being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, squashed rumors they hated each other on set, and the likelihood of whether they would return to the MCU. Johannson reflected on her experiences on Avengers (2012) as a twenty-six-year-old single woman, describing it all as an “adult summer camp.” Paltrow resonated with Johansson’s experiences, saying it was “fun to be in something that resonated so deeply with people culturally.”

Despite Johannson’s memories of joy filming the MCU, she does not intend to return.

“I’m done,” Johansson said. “Chapter is over. I kind of did all that I had to do. Also, coming back and playing a character again and again like that, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

As for Paltrow, the door appears to be open. She thinks her character could come back, especially since hers is alive. She joked about a 64-year-old Pepper Potts.

“One-hundred percent, that’s happening,” Johansson said. “I can see it. They’re never gonna let you go. Break out that wig, baby.”

Paltrow’s last movie as Pepper Potts in the MCU was Avengers: Endgame (2019). Johansson’s last movie as Natasha Romanoff was in Black Widow (2021).
