SCAD Savannah Film Festival Announces Honorees For This Year’s Festival Including Spike Lee, Sydney Sweeney, Brendan Fraser, And Others

A list of twenty-three honorees for this year’s SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the largest university-run festival, has been announced, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Founded and hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, the festival enters its 28th year, celebrating independent film and honoring special guests.

This year’s honorees include Park Chan-wook for the International Auteur Award, Brendan Fraser for the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema Award; Spike Lee for the Legend of Cinema Award; Will Arnett and Rose Byrne for the Luminary Award, Miles Caton for the Rising Star Award; Zoey Deutch for the Breakthrough Performance Award; Joel Edgerton for the Vanguard Award; Mark Hamill for the Lifetime Achievement Award; Oscar Isaac for the Icon Award; Dylan O’Brien for the Lumiere Award; Benny Safdie for the Maverick Director Award; Tessa Thompson for the Distinguished Performance Award. Rian Johnson, Jon M. Chu, Jennifer Lopez, Miles Teller, Craig Brewer, Hannah Beachler, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Amanda Seyfried, Kristen Stewart, and Sydney Sweeney have also received various recognitions.

Christina Routhier, the festival’s executive director, spoke excitedly about the honorees, saying,

“I’m overjoyed with the lineup of remarkable honorees joining us this year. Their contributions to the industry are truly inspiring, and I’m especially excited for the opportunities our students and audiences will have to learn from them, which is what makes the SCAD Savannah Film Festival such a singular and transformative experience.”

This year’s SCAD Savannah Film Festival will run from October 25th through November 1st, with the honorees participating in award presentations, moderated conversations, and master classes with SCAD students.

Erik Carlson: Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Erik has loved film from an early age, ever since his grandmother introduced him to Laurel and Hardy, The Little Rascals, and Abbott and Costello. Receiving his Bachelor's in English and Cinema at the University of Iowa, Erik would go on to receive a Masters Degree in Filmmaking at the Los Angeles branch of the New York Film Academy. His thesis project, A Night At The Movies would go on to win several awards on the festival circuit, including Best Short Screenplay at the San Diego International Kids Film Festival. An aspiring screenwriter, Erik likes to write adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy stories. In addition to working at MXDWN, Erik also writes film reviews for fun on his blog. He has also been a digital marketing assistant for Laura Lee Productions since 2019.
