‘Saw’ Writers To Tackle ‘Halloween’ Reboot

Dimension Films has hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the writing duo behind Saw IV through VII, to write the latest entry in the Halloween franchise according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The two scribes have floated around the horror genre for some time now with the likes of  Feast (2005), The Collector (2009), and more tongue-in-cheek fare like Piranha 3DD (2012)

The Halloween franchise has struggled to find the staying powerof the original films. Rob Zombie wrote and directed a 2007 reboot and the subsequent sequel in 2009. There were talks of a third film to be called Halloween 3D, but the project was abandoned.

With more than half of the Saw franchise to their name, Dunstan and Melton are particularly well-versed in the torture-porn subgenre. While past Halloween films have plenty of gore, they relied mostly on “jump-scares.” It will be interesting to see the direction they take the franchise and if it spawns more than two sequels.
