Sasha Calle Speaks About Her Recent Film Experiences

Sasha Calle recently opened up about her latest films and experience working on The Flash

Andy Muschietti’s The Flash was Calle’s debut feature film where she played Supergirl. However, after the film was met with Ezra Miller’s legal controversy which prolonged its release, the anticipation for the film dwindled and only Calle did press for it. Around the time of the film’s release, DC Studios began changing its course with James Gunn taking the lead in future projects. This would mean that Calle’s Supergirl would no longer be part of the DCEU after The Flash.

While doing press for the movie, Calle had to deal with questions about Miller, instead of herself. When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Calle said, “It was very hard, I have to say. I had bittersweet feelings as I was maneuvering everything. I was very excited, but there were a lot of unanswered questions for me, so it was very bittersweet.”

Calle formed an unlikely friendship with Leslie Grace, who played Batgirl in the 2022 scrapped Batgirl film. They supported one another after going through similar things with the studio.

“I don’t know what I would’ve done without Leslie, to be honest with you. I feel like she got it even worse, and yet, she was just this divine light of love and warmth,” Calle stated to The Hollywood Reporter. “And even though it came from a really confusing and painful situation, we got to have this beautiful friendship that is true and honest and sincere and kind. We were there for each other, and I am really happy that we had each other then.”

Grace pushed Calle to move on with other projects such as Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio’s semi-autobiographical film, In the Summers. Calle plays Adult Eva, one of the two sisters in the film, who has dealt with her troubled father every summer in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She filmed the critically-acclaimed movie during The Flash press tour.

“I was just so honored to work even though I was exhausted … especially with Alessandra, who’s a queer Colombian woman,” Calle shared. “I got together with my lawyer recently, and I’m just going to read you her quote: ‘Don’t complain how full your plate is when all you ever wanted was to eat.’ You just have to remind yourself that you dreamed of moments like that when you were little.”

Calle says she is proud of herself for the way she handled The Flash press tour and filming. However, she is a little disappointed that her Supergirl will not be in any more movies since she shot an ending scene that would have made for her return in future films.

In the Summers releases Nov. 5 on digital.

Calle’s next project is RIP alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon coming soon to Netflix.
