In what is being heralded as her greatest performance yet, Saoirse Ronan’s role in Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun is being recognized by fans and critics alike. The film is having its official North American release through Sony Pictures Classics later this year. The Outrun premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and the Biarritz Nouvelles Vagues Festival, which presented Ronan with the Top Actor award for her role. Ronan also worked as a producer on the film.
The Outrun was based on the best-selling memoir by Amy Liptrot. Liptrot and Fingsheidt co-wrote the screenplay following the story closely and exploring the themes of recovery and addiction as seen in the memoir. The film follows Ronan’s character, 29-year-old Rona, as she returns to her childhood home after 10 years following her sobriety recovery and her journey to make peace with her past. Ronan spoke highly of the film with other cast and crew members, all of which described the project as something to be proud of.
The Outrun will be hitting American theaters in the fall on Oct. 4. The film is presented by Stage 6 with Sony handling the distribution. There is currently no word on a streaming release set but an announcement from Sony is expected.
