Samuel L. Jackson Supports MCU Co-Star Brie Larson Against Misogynistic Marvel Fans

For as long as Brie Larson has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she has been the target of misogynistic hate campaigns by toxic Marvel fans. Samuel L. Jackson has been defending her for just as long.

In a new interview with Variety, Jackson said Larson doesn’t let any of the comments deter her from continuing her role as Captain Marvel in the MCU.

“She’s not going to let any of that stuff destroy her,” Jackson told the trade. “These incel dudes who hate strong women, or the fact that she’s a feminist who has an opinion and expressed it? Everybody wants people to be who they want them to be. She is who she is, and she’s genuinely that.”

In 2019, after the release of Captain Marvel, toxic Marvel fans were so perturbed by the first female-led MCU movie that they felt they had no choice but to review-bomb it on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb. Rotten Tomatoes, in return, felt they had no choice but to change the way they handled reviews.

Since then, Jackson has constantly taken Larson’s side, and he isn’t the only Marvel co-star to defend Larson from rude comments. In 2019, Don Cheadle took to Twitter to defend her after a body-language expert called her domineering during Avengers: Endgame promotional interviews. Chadwick Boseman also very publicly supported Larson multiple times.

Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson are not just coworkers– they are friends off-screen as well. He’s even been known to comment the occasional “YES!!” with heart emojis on her Instagram selfies; his support goes far beyond defending her from internet trolls.

The Marvels, starring Larson and Jackson, will air in November.
