Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) has possibly found her next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director is in talks to direct Chappaquiddick, the film about the scandal surrounding senator Ted Kennedy.
Written by Taylor Allen and Andrew Logan, the film follows the car accident on the Martha’s Vineyard island of Chappaquiddick in 1969 where Senator Kennedy was involved with the accident that led to the death of Robert Kennedy’s former campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne. The film reportedly follows the senator as he struggles to salvage his family’s legacy as well his own political career.
Despite the first Fifty Shades film making more than $570 million worldwide, Taylor-Johnson won’t return for the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker. Rumors surfaced leading up to the first film’s release that she butted heads with series author E.L. James over creative differences. Taylor-Johnson also directed the John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy.
No information has been released on a start-date or casting. We’ll have more on the project as it releases.
