Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi is reportedly in final talks to return for the third installment in the Doctor Strange franchise.
Journalist Jeff Sneider reports that Sam Raimi has “all-but closed a deal” to direct the next film. His previous feat, In the Multiverse of Madness, was met with mixed reviews among fans but grossed $950 million worldwide. The film currently sits at a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Other reports claimed that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was eager to work with Raimi again. Raimi was also reportedly the top choice to direct Avengers: Secret Wars at one point.
Although not confirmed, a third installment to the Doctor Strange story is likely. Earlier this year, Benedict Cumberbatch was asked about potentially returning to the titular role.
“I hope so. I would love to do another one. Doctor Strange is such a complex character and it feels like there is so much more to explore with him. He is such a brilliant character and I’m still having a wild time playing him.”
There are rumors that the project will adapt the “Time Runs Out” storyline from the comic series.
Both Doctor Strange and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are streaming on Disney+.
