The adaptation of the iconic Legend of Zelda games is in development, with Deadline reporting two major casting additions earlier today.  Not only will Uli Latukefu serve as the villain Ganondorf, but it was reported that Sam Neill, who tragically passed away just last month, has a role in the film.

The cast also includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth taking on the role of Link, Bo Bragason will portray Princess Zelda, and Dichen Lachman and Yvonne Strahovski also round out the cast as it currently stands.  While Strahovski’s role is unknown similar to Neill’s, Lachman will portray Impa, bodyguard and advisor to Princess Zelda.

The plot for the film is currently unknown, but Deadline outlined the basic premise of the IP spawned by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuk, “…follows the elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king.”  The film will be spearheaded by Wes Ball (Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes, The Maze Runner).  Ball will also produce alongside Avi Arad, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Joe Hartwick Jr.  T.S. Nowlin and Derek Connolly penned the script.

Considered a Hollywood icon, Sam Neill left behind a storied legacy, which included films like: Jurassic Park, Possession, In The Mouth of Madness, and The Hunt For Red October.  This film is not the only posthumous acting appearance for Neill, with the actor having filmed roles for upcoming films The Last Resort, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and a fourth untitled project.
