Salma Hayek has joined Channing Tatum in the final installment of the Magic Mike franchise, Magic Mike’s Last Dance, from Warner Bros. The star had replaced Thandiwe Newton, who was previously attached when the third film was confirmed decided to step away from the project for personal reasons.
A statement from a Warner Bros. spokesperson said, “Thandiwe Newton has made the difficult decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Magic Mike’s Last Dance to deal with family matters.”
The film has begun production in London and is set to premiere in theatres and on HBO Max. Plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being. Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first Magic Mike, is set to return for the final film alongside Reid Carolyn, who wrote the script. Gregory Jacobs, who directed the 2015 hit Magic Mike XXL, will return as a producer with Carolyn, Nick Wechsler, and Peter Kiernan.
The first two films nearly grossed a combined $300 million worldwide, and in 2017, the film paved the way for the successful stage show Magic Mike Live.
Hayek has recently been seen in Marvel’s Eternals, now playing on Disney+.
