Searchlight Pictures has just released the first trailer for the new rock opera O’Dessa. The film is the sophomore feature for director Geremy Jasper (Patti Cake$), and it stars Sadie Sink (Stranger Things). It is set for a March 13th premiere on Hulu after its world premiere at SXSW.
According to Deadline:
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the psychedelic musical fantasy follows a farm girl on an epic quest to recover a cherished family heirloom. Her journey leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets her one true love — but in order to save his soul, she must put the power of destiny and song to the ultimate test.
The trailer is filled with potent imagery and unique effects. According to the official trailer, O’Dessa features 16 original songs. It will be a chance for Sink, once a child star on Broadway, to flex her vocal skills for a much larger audience.
Searchlight Pictures’ previous film was A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic by James Mangold. A Complete Unknown is currently up for an impressive eight Academy Awards. Hopefully, O’Dessa continues Searchlight’s trend of quality films. If that is the case, audiences can expect a wild, music-filled ride.
