Saban Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to the espionage thriller MI-5 starring Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Peter Firth (The Hunt for the Red October).
Previously titled Spooks: The Greater Good, the movie is based on the television series of the same name. The movie follows Will Holloway (Harington) who works with a disgraced MI-5 Agent (Firth) to find an escaped terrorist. Baharat Nalluri directed the film (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) and Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) also stars.
Saban Films is best known for their television work, namely the Power Rangers series. They are behind a film reboot of the series with aims to create a new film franchise à la Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Despite Spooks never making a huge splash in The States, the film will look to bring in fans of American action films. “Given the strong and loyal following of actioners, we are confident that fans will delight in the film based on the hit UK series,” Saban Films President Bill Bromiley said. Saban Films also distributed last year’s The Homesman.
The movie is currently set to release in December with no specific date highlighted at this time.
