Wu-Tang Clan member and filmmaker RZA (The Protector 2, The Man With the Iron Fists) and Eric Roberts (King of Gypsies, Runaway Train) will join Michael Dorman, Sophia Bush, Dermot Mulroney, and Melora Walters in the film Hard Luck Love Song. It is an American music-inspired indie film produced by Synthetic Pictures and Dime Box Entertainment; it’s directed by Justin Corsbie, who also co-wrote the script with Craig Ugoretz.
Hard Luck Love Song is based on singer-songwriter Todd Snider’s song Just Like Old Times from his 2006 album The Devil You Know. The story unrolls as Jess (Dorman), a charismatic but down-on-his-luck troubadour, finds himself at an existential crossroads as his bad decisions catch up with him. His world spins into further upheaval after a chance encounter with Carla (Bush), an old flame with whom he shares a toxic past. Ultimately, the story hinges on whether these profoundly flawed characters have the ability to navigate through their past and overcome the tumultuous forces that threaten to drag them down.
RZA will take on the role of Louis, who has an emotional hold on Carla. Roberts will play Skip, a bar doorman who cares about Carla and often advises Jesse.
Production is currently underway in Los Angeles.
