The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will star in the upcoming movie based on the Nintendo game, Pokemon. In addition to Reynolds, the Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed Kathryn Newton from Lady Bird and Supernatural as well as Justice Smith who acted in Paper Towns and the short-lived but acclaimed Netflix show, The Get Down.
Directed by Legendary Entertainment, Detective Pikachu will follow the inquisitive explorer in a world filled with people and Pokemon, enabling a narrative filled with adventure!
The film will be directed by Rob Letterman, a creator who’s established himself in the world of animated fare like Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens. Production for the upcoming film is scheduled to begin during mid-January of 2018. Due to the popularity of the game, Legendary Entertainment says that they anticipate the potential for positive reception. Their beliefs are hardly unfounded, given the international obsession with Pokemon and the already well-established longevity of the brand, which has since revolutionized the gaming world, also spawning films, a television show, and the iconic phone game, Pokemon GO which seemed to be the biggest trend of summer 2016. Hopefully this new movie will garner the same sort of reception, which is certainly more than possible with the excellent franchise, cast, and crew!
More to come as announced.
