Though long-rumored and long-attached to the reprisal of Marvel fans’ favorite assassin, Ryan Reynolds has finally confirmed through his Twitter account that he will return as Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson, for the solo movie.
With a fuller X-Men universe already confirmed (see here), fans can expect the return of a Deadpool that’s more closely modeled on the comic character. With the time reset following X-Men: Days of Future Past, it’s certainly possible for the hybrid mutant version of Deadpool from Origins: Wolverine to be reset. Even if that’s not how things pan out, with the post-credit scene of Deadpool opening his eyes and mouth, the mercenary will most likely return in his beloved chatty persona.
Director Tim Miller has been trying to get the Deadpool film with Reynolds attached off the ground for a while now. Though the dream project’s had a rocky start, with Reynolds teasing his involvement , a whole new spinoff series centering on Deadpool is possible.
The Deadpool spinoff is scheduled for release on February 12, 2016 alongside X-Men: Apocalypse, set for May 27th that same year.
